Within the esplanade is the Dugald McKenzie rose garden, which is home to over 5,000 varieties and incorporates the International Rose Trial Grounds.

During summer, the action is tripled with the outdoor pools, a dedicated AquaPlay area for kids with 51 water features and a 600 litre dumping bucket. Summer also sees the North Island’s biggest SuperBowl slide and the adrenaline pumping Speed slide, with speeds of up to 60kmh, in action.
The Lido Aquatic Centre is located right next to the Victoria Esplanade, and offers a sauna, steam room and spa, multiple indoor and outdoor pools including a toddler pool, and an onsite cafe and fitness centre.
The stunning terrain of the Ruahine and Tararua Ranges offer walks, hikes and multi-day tramps for all abilities and are dotted with a solid range of huts, lodges and even bivvy’s. All of this makes for a diverse and exciting outdoor playground, right in Palmerston North city's backyard.
